Day 21!

Hello again! For day twenty-one of Diamine Inkvent, we have Tranquility.

The color/properties:

Tranquility is a “chameleon” ink. It has shimmering particulates that are supposed to change color depending on the lighting and viewing angle. Like most of the other chameleon inks this year, I can’t say that I saw much of a notable color shift. I mostly observed a silvery-green shimmer that sometimes appeared yellow or golden. The base color is a deep magenta. There’s a lot of warmth to the color, and it shades with a soft cut between its lighter and darker tones where the ink pools.

How did it perform?

Tranquility’s performance was okay. I didn’t have any clogs or hard starts while testing, but I did find the shimmer distribution to be inconsistent. There would be times when I felt that there wasn’t enough shimmer, and then suddenly too much. It never felt like there was a good balance, and continuously agitating the particulates in the pen didn’t seem to make any difference. The ink otherwise felt fine to write with. There wasn’t any feeling of dryness, and that remained consistent across each of the test nibs. Unfortunately, while the color and particulates mostly cleaned out after a single flush and soak, there was a haze left behind along the inner barrel of the test pen that required disassembly of the pen to clean out.

My personal thoughts…

I’m not sure if “tranquility” is what comes to mind when I look at this ink, but otherwise, I really like the base color. I wish I could say I felt the same way about the shimmer. It didn’t perform well, and honestly, this is the first ink in the calendar that I wish just didn’t have any particulates. Maybe the barrage of chameleon inks in this year’s calendar has simply become fatiguing, but I don’t see this one finding a place on my “buy” list.
