Diamine Inkvent 2024: Day 10 — Chilly Nights
Day 10!
Welcome to Inkvent Day 10! Today, we’re checking out Chilly Nights.
The color/properties:
Diamine Chilly Nights is a Star-Bright ink; a type of shimmering ink with bright, highly reflective particulates. The base color is a midnight blue that shades with a soft gradient when writing in cursive and a crisper cut between light and dark tones when writing in print. While there’s some shading, it can be difficult to make out beneath the bright particulates. That also goes for the letters themselves: when the particulates are so bright, it can be difficult to make out the writing in some lighting conditions.

How did it perform?
Chilly Nights has a medium flow and is well-lubricated enough to make for a comfortable writing experience, and while it performed well for the most part, it had a tendency to hard start with the broad nib. There weren’t any clogs or outright stops, however, and for an ink that’s this shimmery, it’s better than you would expect. The shimmer distribution is excellent and well-balanced throughout the writing and required minimal agitation of the pen to keep flowing.
There weren’t as many particulates left in the pen as you think there would be for such a high-shimmering ink, but at the end of the day, there was still a light coating left along the inside of the barrel that required disassembly of the pen for me to clean out with a cotton swab.
My personal thoughts…
Another Star-Bright! And this one might be my favorite of the bunch. It easily has the highest contrast between the base color and shimmer of the ones we’ve had so far and it really emphasizes just how ridiculous (and I mean that in the best way) the Star-Bright shimmer really is. And it does a great job living up to its namesake too. It reminds me of a dark, snow-frosted window on a stormy winter night. This is an easy recommendation. If you’re interested in any of the Star-Bright inks, this is the one I’d point you towards.
