Diamine Inkvent 2024: Day 12 — Snow Globe

Day 12!

Hello everyone! For day twelve of Diamine Inkvent, we have Snow Globe.

The color/properties:

Snow Globe is a chameleon ink — a type of shimmering ink with particulates that change color depending on the angle at which the ink is viewed. The base color is a dusky blue with a mild pink undertone that shades with a crisp cut between its light and a slightly darker tone where the ink pools. As for the chameleon effect, it seems to lean more blue/purple than any of the other Chameleon inks I’ve tried, but otherwise, I didn’t notice more changes in color beyond that.

How did it perform?

Snow Glow wasn’t the best performer. It took a while for the ink to flow to the nib, and once it was writing, the flow remained visibly dry. The writing experience was sandy feeling, especially with the fine nib, and wasn’t much better with the medium and broad nibs. I didn’t experience any clogging, skipping, or hard starting while writing with the ink, but it wasn’t a pleasant experience. The shimmer distribution wasn’t great either: it was spotty at best no matter how much I agitated the pen.

The cleaning experience was also poor, and not only was there a light ring of shimmer left along the inside of the barrel, but a light pink stain as well that required technical pen cleaner to remove.

My personal thoughts…

I have to say I’m really disappointed with this one because I had such high hopes for Snow Globe. It sounded so beautifully wintery! And I guess it still is. The color looks great, and I don’t have any complaints there (then again, it is kind of another icy blue that isn’t unlike Baltic Sea, Glacier, Blizzard, etc). It had so much potential, and it can look absolutely brilliant. Unfortunately, the writing experience left much to be desired, and to top things off, it stains my pen pink? I can’t possibly call this anything other than a massive disappointment.
