Day 13!

Welcome back! Let’s talk about Inkvent Day 13, Lullaby.

The color/properties:

Diamine Lullaby is a standard ink, a soft pastel purple with heavy pink undertones. It shades with a soft gradient in cursive and a crisp cut in print between its light and dark tones where the ink pools. The shading is interesting because in writing it darkens into a pinker color but as you lay more of the color down it returns to it’s deeper purple tone.

How did it perform?

Lullaby has a dry flow, and while I wouldn’t say it’s entirely uncomfortable to write with, it wasn’t the smoothest either. There was a noticeable drag I could feel while writing, and after a while it did become fatiguing. I didn’t have any hard starts or skips during my writing, but halfway down the print side of my writing sample, the flow slowed down so much that I had to stop and wait for the pen to catch back up (and you can see in the writing sample that it starts to look even lighter than normal).

Despite being such a light ink, it still took a second soak and flush to clean out completely, and although light, there was still a visible ring of purple residue left inside the pen. I was able to get this out with a twisted-up paper towel, so the pen didn’t require disassembly, but it was still unexpected and could be an issue in some pens.

My personal thoughts…

So, Lullaby…?

This is one of those inks that I think would be okay on it’s own, but feels like another reachy filler ink in the Inkvent calendar. I’m not sure what the idea was behind this one, but either way, I’m not all that fond of it. There’s something about the color that just isn’t doing it for me, like something was missing that would elevate it to what I like to call “Inkvent status” — something cool, something extra, something unexpected. Still, I can see this garnering some fans amongst those who appreciate pale inks. Is it festive? No. Is it wintry? Eh. Is it an ink in the 2024 Inkvent calendar? Yes, it sure is, just not a great one.
