Diamine Inkvent 2024: Day 14 — Mint Twist
Day 14!
We’re wrapping up the second week of Inkvent! Day fourteen is Mint Twist.
The color/properties:
Diamine Mint Twist is a Chameleon ink — a type of shimmer ink that changes color depending on the angle at which you look at it. The base color is, as it sounds, a bright minty green, and it executes that well. There’s some light shading, especially when writing in print, where there’s a noticeable cut between a slightly darker shade of the base color. As for the Chameleon effect, it’s okay. Like many of the chameleon inks, I wasn’t able to see any drastic changes in the color of the particulates, but what I picked up was a slight shift between blue and purple, and I think that pairs nicely with the cool tone of the ink. Personally, I really like that they did minty green and not a minty red.

How did it perform?
Mint Twist has a medium-dry flow, and the writing experience isn’t slick, but I wouldn’t call it unpleasant either. I had a few hard starts with the broad nib, and the flow began to slow down a little over halfway down the cursive side of my writing sample (using the medium nib), but it never outright stopped. The shimmer distribution was okay, but it required more agitation than usual to keep it flowing, and it’s noticeable in writing, where there are lines that have more shimmer than others.
I’m not sure why, but I had a feeling that this one was going to be easy to clean, and it was! The color washed out quickly, and there weren’t any traces of shimmer left inside the pen either. Your cleaning experience may still vary from mine, but I love to see an easy cleaning shimmer ink.
My personal thoughts…
For whatever reason, I really loved this one. It’s not like it excels in any particular category either. It’s not the slickest, most carefree writing experience I’ve ever had with a shimmering ink, but I couldn’t help but feel like this was an overall wonderful ink. It’s minty fresh and does its name plenty of justice. It’s perfect for the season and really had me in the mood for the holidays in a way that none of the inks in this year’s calendar quite have yet. I can see this one being a lot of fun with a nice juicy pen to balance out its slightly dry flow. I’ll be revisiting this bottle in the future.
