Diamine Inkvent 2024: Day 5 — Icy Lilac
Day 5!
Hello everyone! For day five of Diamine Inkvent, we have Icy Lilac.
The color/properties:
Diamine Icy Lilac is a shimmering ink. The base color is a pale blue-purple with a brilliant silver shimmer. It shades lightly with a soft cut between light and dark tones where the ink pools. When writing in cursive the color comes through more silvery compared to when writing in print, where more of the darker, bluer tones break through the layer of shimmer.

How did it perform?
Icy Lilac performed well enough. I had some difficulties getting the ink to flow, and once it did it was visibly dry, though it was lubricated enough to be comfortable to write with. I didn’t have any clogs or stops or hard starts either, and the shimmer distribution was excellent, barely requiring any agitation of the pen to keep it flowing.
Cleaning the ink itself out of the pen and nib units was quick and easy, but there was an unfortunate haze and ring of shimmer left over in the pen. It was easy enough to remove with a cotton swab, but it required the removal of the piston assembly to get to it.
My personal thoughts…
My immediate concern with this ink was that it might be too similar to last year’s Lavender Frost — an ink that I liked quite a lot. I compared them and sure, the idea’s similar, but they’re certainly not the same, and as much as I liked Lavender Frost, I want to say that I may like this one even more. It’s not so much the color but the distribution of shimmer. Icy Lilac’s shimmer was so consistent and even, it’s beautiful to look at, all while retaining the same muted and calming tones of a quiet snowy evening that I loved so much.
