Diamine Inkvent 2024: Day 15 — Sleigh Ride
Day 15!
Hello everyone! For day fifteen of Diamine Inkvent, we have Sleigh Ride.
The color/properties:
Diamine Sleigh Ride is an Extreme Sheen ink. The base color is a medium, somewhat nutty, warm reddish-brown that dries into a brilliant green sheen where the ink pools. It doesn’t seem to matter if you’re writing in cursive or print, it appears to sheen the same way regardless. It does technically shade into a slightly darker brown, but in reality, the sheen overpowers any kind of shading that you most likely won’t see any. I appreciate that, for a mega sheener like this, the base color isn’t too dark and is still easily distinguishable.

How did it perform?
Sleigh Ride has a wet flow and is well-lubricated for a very pleasant writing experience. Being a high-sheening ink does come with a few caveats though, and as expected, it dries quickly in the nib if you leave it out for a few seconds too long; however, it wasn’t as bad as you would expect, at least compared to many other high sheening inks. I wouldn’t say it ever became a frustrating issue, and I never had any hard starts or stops as long as I continued writing. I would go as far as to say it’s one of the better-behaved sheening inks I’ve tried.
Of course, cleaning is still an issue, and much like the last Extreme Sheen ink we had in this calendar, this one also left a light red stain in my pen (why do I subject myself to this). It was removable with technical pen cleaner, but it still took some time and required the disassembly of the pen to do so. I wouldn’t recommend an ink like this anywhere near a demonstrator or lighter-colored pens that stain easily. I’d also recommend using it with something that has an easily soakable grip section because otherwise, this could take quite a while to clean out.
My personal thoughts…
Goodness, another ink in the Extreme Sheen category, that was unexpected, but welcome all the same. And I like this one even more than the last one (Grotto). The name speaks for itself too — Sleigh Ride~ Yeah, that’s the kind of Inkvent ink I’m looking for, and I love it. I can easily see how the green sheen on the base brown can capture the essence of a beautifully ornate sleigh. It’s not often that you see a sheening brown ink either, and this one delivers that sheen like no other I’ve seen before. This one is an easy recommendation from me, holidays or not.
Big fan. Huge!
