Day 8!

Welcome back! Today, we have Marley.

The color/properties:

Diamine Marley is a dark grey with heavy violet undertones. It shades with a soft cut between its light and dark tones, with darker edges around the pooled areas of the ink, and light pink hues in the center of shaded areas. The beautiful shading dynamic makes this a wonderfully complex grey.

How did it perform?

Marley performs well. It has a medium flow, and while I wouldn’t call it slick, it’s lubricated enough to be comfortable. With that said I did notice the flow start to drop off about half way through my writing sample on the cursive side, and you might be able to see that in the photo where the writing begins to thin out a little. Still, it never became uncomfortable to write with, and I never had any skips, stops, or hard starts while writing with it, so it still gets a pass. Cleaning it out wasn’t an issue either: a quick soak and flush had this ink clear of the pen without any visible color or residue remaining in the pen.

My personal thoughts…

Oh hey! We have a follow-up to last year’s Bah Humbug! Maybe it’s that I have a bias towards grey inks, but I had a lot of fun with this one. Still, it didn’t stop me from considering that we already have a Diamine Ghost. I wouldn’t necessarily say that one is better than the other, but Marley is a lot darker, and I think that’s more appropriate and true to how his late-night appearance is depicted in A Christmas Carol. Will I buy a full bottle when this one is all used up? Of course I will — it’s grey.
